What will you experience?

Ghana into Togo through the mountains

The Highlands

Ghana's border towns give way to Togo's, and the road climbs into the highlands — one of the most scenic areas of the entire region. Wli Falls and Tagbo Falls — two waterfalls, back to back, both worth the wet shoes.

Koutammakou

We travel further up north to the Land of the Batammariba. A UNESCO world heritage site of fortified mud towers, the same their ancestors built to keep slave raiders out, still standing. A living, breathing, museum, that is being used as a home just like it was hundreds of years ago.

2: Benin's interior

The Dankoli Fetish Shrine

One of the most renowned voodoo sites in Benin — and not staged for you. People travel across the country to pray here. You'll essentially get the chance of standing in someone else's church and witness their celebrations authentically.

Abomey's Voodoo Celebration

Once again: the real thing, not a reenactment. Timing puts you inside a living ceremony most travelers only ever read about.

3: The heart of Vodoun - Benin's Coast

Ouidah — the Point of No Return

The spiritual capital of Beninese voodoo, and the site of a memorial that isn't a metaphor: the actual last ground enslaved people stood on before the Atlantic took the rest of the story.

Ganvié

A stilt village built on Lake Nokoué by people who fled slave raiders centuries ago and never came back to land. Called the "Venice of Africa" — except every house is real and every canoe has somewhere to be.

Cotonou, to close it out

Beach time, a farewell seafood dinner, saying goodbye to your group and new friends, and processing the last week before heading back home to a reverse culture shock.

✈️ What flights should I look for?

Arrival into Ghana Airport, Accra (ACC) on Saturday March 27th, before 08:00am, with direct flights from from Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc on Sundays, and direct flights from Brussels Sunday through Friday on Brussels Airlines, as well as London Gatwick every Sunday and Thursday with Euroairlines. If you arrive early, we are more than happy to help arrange accommodation and early airport pickup.

Departure out of Cotonou airport, Benin (ACC) on April 2nd, anytime.

Airport pickup and drop off is included 24h on the days of the adventure. If flight schedules should not align and you want us to arrange an extra hotel night, I'm happy to help!
